Chia Amisola is a Filipino designer + internet/ambient artist. They like to make websites and have been making websites since they were 6 years old.

Chia Amisola (they/them) is an internet / ambient artist from Manila, Philippines. Their (web)site-specific art is an act of worldmaking constructing spaces, systems, and tools that posit worlds where creation is synonymous with liberation. Ambience as practice tackles infrastructure, poetics, labor, and maintenance. Simply put, they wish to gather all the people they love in one place and explore how the internet might be that place. Chia is the Founder of Developh, a critical technology institute in the Philippines founded in 2016, the Philippine Internet Archive, and teaches & performs.


They received a BA in Computing & the Arts with distinction from Yale University in 2022, and the Sudler Prize, the top creative arts award given to graduating students. They were a Fellow of the Processing Foundation and the Yale Center for Collaborative Arts & Media, spoke at the Grace Hopper Celebration, Causal Islands, UX+ Philippines (among others), have been internationally exhibited at panke.gallery, KUNSTSURFER, Swords & Kisses and Now Play This, were recently published in Rappler and The HTML Review, and have been featured in El País, Frieze, and The New Yorker.


Ambience underlies Chia's work, rooted in the politics of visibility, infrastructure, ubiquity, identity, labor, archives, elemental media, and systems. Intentionally prolific, their internet art & spaces date back to 2006. This work includes gamemaking tools that are games themselves (engine.lol), web epics and alternative social spaces exploring digital intimacy (their upcoming game, WHEN WE LOVE), dwelling within existing acts of placemaking online (their manifesto, The Sound of Love (website + print), as featured on the New Yorker) transfigurations of sound / religion / ritual into the online (Visita), re-presenting folk archives into websites (Martial Law Index, Philippine Cassette Archive), teaching & gathering (including having hosted 100+ events, fellowships, residencies, and conferences with Developh—all pro-bono), amongst others.
