Biography

Chia Amisola is an internet artist & a ambient artist.
b. 2000 in Tondo, Manila

They are interested in gathering all the people they love in one place and how the internet might be this place.

Their practice surrounds gathering & worldmaking on the internet through the construction of worlds, systems, and tools for communal care, self-preservation, and maintenance. Mostly, they are interested in the ‘invisibles’ and ‘unseens’ within technology, and what the application of a quantum listening-like practice with our relationships with technology & tools—a relation of technology as activism, and of love.

Through the making of worlds and the tools to continue shaping these worlds, creation becomes a radical act of self-preservation.

Chia is interested in the question of technology in the Philippines & Southeast Asia, ambience of sound, gathering, and web, environmental media, clouds, folk technologies & archives, dualities (or the lack thereof) in offline & online spaces of care.

By day they are a Product Designer on Figma's Prototyping team. At night, they create Developh— a community of practice towards radical, critical technologies that Chia founded in 2016. They're also stewarding the beginnings of the Philippine Internet Archive, a net label, web experiments, radio, and field recording. They recently graduated from Yale with a BA in Computing and the Arts, receiving the Louis Sudler Prize, where their thesis was a game engine that's a game in itself.

Working on WHEN WE LOVE, a dating simulator beyond one screen, a set of interconnected online & offline experiences about expressions of love in the time of the internet.

Critical technology projects at Developh, focusing on publishing and communinty archival.

Stewarding the beginnings of the Philippine Internet Archive, presently researching and recording Filipino internet history.

Doing ambient & experimental radio shows on Filipino radio, internet history; and investigating the 'sound of a website'.
